Analyze:
Grade: Kindergarten
Demographics: 7 Caucasian, 5 African American, 4 Hispanic, 4 Asian.
Learning Styles: 80% Visual 20% Tactile
Background knowledge: The students are now more than 50% through the school year. They know how to can count to 100, the alphabet, basic sentence structure. The students also know how to create word documents.
Learning disabilities: Two students are diagnosed with dyslexia.

Benchmark: Identify whether the number of objects in one group is greater than, less than, or equal to the number of objects in another group, e.g., by using matching and counting strategies.

2. Standard SS.K.A.2.2
Benchmark: Recognize the importance of celebrations and national holidays as a way of remembering and honoring people,events, and our nation's ethnic heritage.

3. Standard MACC.K.MD.2.3
Benchmark: Classify objects into given categories; count the numbers of objects in each category and sort the categories by count.

State Objectives

Given paper shapes, Students will be able to count the types of shapes and categorize them into groups with 100% accuracy.
Provided with a video, students will be able to identify why we celebrate Thanksgiving with 80% accuracy.
Provided with a worksheet students will be able to tell which number is larger with basic inequalities with 100% accuracy.
Provided with a book, students will be able to compare cultures of Pilgrims and Native Americans with 80%

20 WorkSheets for inequalities
80 paper rectangles for the turkey feathers
20 Large paper circles
20 small paper circles
60 paper triangles paper

1 bag of candy corn
20 plastic baggies
5 Glue Sticks

Utilize Materials
Check powerpoint for working order
Check Thanksgiving video for acceptableness and working order.
Check computer for working order
Check projector for working order
Reserve Projector

Materials
Sort the paper shapes and place them into baggies for each of the students.
Make sure none children have allergies for the candy.
Make arrangements for the SLD students and pair them up.
Layout the candy corn worksheet for each of the students.


Lesson Plan

Day 1:
The students will use KWL charts to see what the students already know what Thanksgiving.
Students will have a group discussion about what they do for Thanksgiving.
The students will watch the video on the First Thanksgiving.
Have the students do the inequalities activity. Pass out the candy.

Day 2:
Go over information the students learned the day before.
Go through the powerpoint on the history of thanksgiving.
read the book and discuss how the pilgrims were different/same as the Native Americans.
Pass out the baggies and have the students make turkeys out of the shapes then have the students count how many of each shape there is.
